Emmy Highlights
Before we get into the clips, a full list of Emmy winners can be found at the Washington Post. There aren’t too many surprises. It gets a little boring reading the list. (Confession: I didn’t watch the awards last night.) Congratulations to Breaking Bad for going out on top. Modern Family won best comedy series and ties Frasiers‘ record for most consecutive wins at five. The only surprise is that the networks and cable shut Netflix out of the race.
Below are three moments: one that’s a mixed bag, one that should be talked about, and one that is being called a highlight.
“Weird Al” Sings Theme Songs
I love “Weird Al” and adding lyrics to theme songs that don’t have them could’ve been brilliant. Instead, we witnessed a hastily thrown together sketch that is awkward to watch. Prepare to role your eyes when “Weird Al” mentions that Game of Thrones has lots of boobs and that George R.R. Martin needs to start writing more, so he doesn’t die before the series is finished.

I’m going to be honest. I don’t understand The MTV Movie Awards, but I never did.Last night, I watched it because I love Conan O’Brien. While Conan was funny for the whole 15 minutes the award show actually featured him, I felt out of place watching it in my own living room. It’s basically the Kids Choice Awards for 15-year-olds, who are now allowed to hear people say “hell” and “ass,” which is absurd in it’s own way. Instead of writing an article bashing The MTV Movie Awards because, when it comes to the show, I am the most clueless 22-year-old.

Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” at the VMAs
Everyone is still talking about Miley’s performance at the MTV Music Video Awards. It’s been two days and we’re all still processing it. Did she appropriate a segment of black culture? Did Miley’s mom really approve of the things her daughter was doing with that foam finger? Yes and yes.
Instead of beating the dead horse that is Miley’s performance, Wait! What’s a Dial? has decided to take a look back at the performance that began the VMA’s reputation for crossing the line. While it was raunchy and shocking in 1984, Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” performance looks quaint in comparison to some of the acts today.

Best Music Performances at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards
The Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards air tomorrow at 8pm. Let’s be honest, no one over the age of 13 cares about them anymore, but that’s not the point. When we were in the target audience, the KCAs were awesome.

In 2005, Simple Plan performed their single “Shut Up!” As though that wasn’t enough, Pierre Bouvier announced that they were going to perform a new song. You probably already know where this is going.

In 2006, Conan O’Brien hosted the Emmy’s on NBC. His hilarious opening parodied several popular shows of the time. The shows featured in order are: Lost, The Office, 24, House, Lost, South Park, and even To Catch a Predator.

The 2012 Emmy Nominees
Earlier today, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the 2012 Emmy Awards nominees. HBO (81 nominations) and CBS (60 nominations) lead the networks in nominations. Mad Men and American Horror Story (tied with 17 nominations) were shows nominated for the most awards.
