‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’: Series Premiere Review
Tina Fay, Amy Poehler, Kristin Wiig, and Jason Sudeikis. These are just some of the many talented comedians who have become household names through Saturday Night Live. They have all left the show and become successful film and television stars. The newest actor to have his own series is Andy Samberg. Samberg is already a talented recording artist thanks to his comedic rap group phenomenon The Lonely Island. Now, he is going back to television.
‘Saturday Night Live’ Loses Another Castmember
Jason Sudeikis leaves Saturday Night Live. Last night, Jason Sudeikis announced on the Late Show with David Letterman that Saturday Night Live‘s 38th season was his last with the long running sketch comedy show. At the end of the past season, Bill Hader and Fred Armisen also left the show.
Cool TV Video of the Day: The Performance that Got Elvis Costello Banned From SNL
Elvis Costello and the Attractions’ infamous performance of “Radio Radio,” which NBC and Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels did not want played because is a protest song about the media, took place on December 17, 1977. Ironically, the performance and the ban probably would not have happened had the originally scheduled guests the Sex Pistols, who were even more controversial, been able to obtain passports.
At the beginning of the performance, Costello and his band start to play their song “Less Than Zero,” but then stop to consult. This ends with a full performance of “Radio Radio.”
The ban only lasted 12 years. Since 1989, Costello has appeared on SNL 3 times. Lorne Micahels even invited Elvis Costello to perform “Radio Radio” with the Beastie Boys for Saturday Night Live‘s 25th anniversary special.
Five Favorite Clips Featuring the Women of SNL
In honor of Kristen Wiig decision to leave Saturday Night Live, I have chosen my five favorite clips featuring the SNL‘s women. This list is very Weekend Update heavy because that is they type of humor I find funny. If you have a favorite SNL Clip that did not make my list, please share it in the comments. I would love to watch it.
5. Weekend Update: Tina Fey Montage- Tina Fey
Tina Fey was fantastic as anchor of Weekend Update. Unfortunately, it is not easy to find a whole sketch on the Internet. While this clip is no where near the funniest, Tina Fey does make a point about scientific research that gets a few laughs.
4. Weekend Update: Jane, You Ignorant Slut!- Jane Curtin
Point/Counterpoint is a classic because of its catchphrase. You just know when Jane Curtin is finished making her point that the first thing out of Dan Aykroyd’s mouth is going to be “Jane, You Ignorant Slut!”
